You’ve created your campaign, and now you’re ready to analyse it. But which report should you choose?
That depends on what you want to see. You can export data in two different ways, giving you two different views:
Export all payments within a given period where the payment method is SMS.
Export all incoming SMS messages within a given period where the status is Processed.
Let’s go through the process and the differences between the two, so you can choose the method that works best for you.
Exporting All Payments Where Payment Method Is SMS
Let’s start with an example where we want to find all SMS donations made within a specific period.
Open the Export module.
Click New export to create a new one, and choose Payments.
Name your export, e.g. “SMS payments in the current month”.
In this example, we want all SMS payments made in the last month.
Add a filter: Created timestamp → Last month.
Add another filter (Add): Payment method type = SMS, so only SMS payments are included.
Add one more filter: State = charged. This ensures we only include payments that were successfully completed.
Click Create.
The export will now contain all SMS payments from the last month.
For example, if you run it on 3 July, it will include all completed SMS payments from June.
Exporting All Incoming SMS That Have Been Processed
What if you want to see all incoming SMS, regardless of whether the payment went through?
In that case, we use a different export.
Click New export again.
This time, choose SMS > SMS Received.
Name your export, e.g. “Incoming SMS last month”.
As before, filter by month: Created timestamp → Last month.
Add another filter: State = Processed.
Optionally, add a filter for keyword (or subkeyword) to see only data for your current campaign. This is optional.
Click Create.
How This Differs From the First Export
This export contains all incoming SMS — even if the donor’s subscription did not allow premium-rate messages.
It also includes messages sent to keywords that do not involve a payment, e.g. newsletter sign-ups, event registrations, or similar.
If you have your own shortcode, you can use this report type to see all incoming messages for a given period.
Viewing Failed SMS Data
If you want to see data for incoming SMS messages where the payment could not be collected, it’s simple:
Go to the main menu SMS.
Select Failed transactions.
Here, you’ll find a complete list of all failed incoming SMS, along with the reason for the failure.
