Ensure that emails do not end up in the spam folder. Allow OnlineFundraising to send emails on behalf of your domain.
OnlineFundraising is often used to send communication using emails. If you wish for these emails to have a sender domain which matches your organisation, it is necessary to allow OnlineFundraising to send emails on your behalf, which means the email domain must be verified. If the email domain is not verified there is a risk that emails sent by your organisation will end up in the spam folder.
How To Validate Email Domain
Follow the steps below in order to validate the email domain of your organisation.
Step 1: Preparation
Identify the domain you wish to send emails from (e.g. yourorganisation.dk). Ensure as well that you have access to the DNS hosting of the domain. In case you do not have access or do not have sufficient knowledge about DNS hosting, forward this guide to the person or bureau who are hosting your website and have them perform the validation.
Step 2: Validate email domain
Go to https://emailvalidation.onlinefundraising.dk/ and follow the guide, which is elaborated below:
Step 1. Type the domain which OnlineFundraising will be sending emails from on your behalf.
-
- Provide the domain without "www" and "https://", e.g. "yourorganisation.dk".
- Once you press "Create/Check", 3 lines of CNAMEs are provided at the bottom of the page.
Step 2. Configure the 3 CNAMEs in your DNS setup.
-
- Configure DNS or forward the information to the person/bureau responsible for DNS hosting.
- Please note: Depending on your DNS provider parts of the CNAME may already be prepared. Example:
The domain onlinefundraising.dk is in the process of being validated. The domain is typed in https://emailvalidation.onlinefundraising.dk/ and results in the following CNAME for DNS configuration:
*****._domainkey.onlinefundraising.dk
Below is an example where the DNS provider already added the domain 'onlinefundraising.dk':
The domain must hence be omitted from the CNAME and becomes:
*****._domainkey
-
- Once the DNS configuration is done, return to https://emailvalidation.onlinefundraising.dk/.
Step 3. Type the same domain and verify setup.
-
- Note that it can take up to 24 hours for the DNS configuration to finalise.
Step 3: Get in Touch With our Support
Please reach out to support@onlinefundraising.dk in case you are not able to successfully complete the email validation. Include information about your domain and DNS hosting.
The Technical Explanation
The 2 CNAME records allows our email service, Amazon SES, to dynamically handle the setup of SPF (Sender Policy Framework) and DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) such that onlinefundraising.dk is able to send validated emails on behalf of your domain.
What About DMARC?
The email validation setup does not include DMARC. If you do not already have a DMARC setup, we suggest using https://dmarc.postmarkapp.com/ as a free alternative.
