What is a keyword and what is a shortcode?
A shortcode is a special 4-digit telephone number designed to receive SMS messages and direct the information to the correct recipient, rather like an old-fashioned switchboard. For example, several organisations can share the shortcode 1417, and here the keyword (=code word) determines who should receive the message and what should happen with it. So the shortcode can be 1417, and the keyword GIV.

Donations require permission
If you want to accept donations by SMS, a special fundraising permit is required. The application rules differ depending on whether or not you are a member of ISOBRO. If you are a member of ISOBRO, you only need to apply once per shortcode, regardless of how many keywords you have. If you change shortcode, you must remember to apply again.
If you are not a member, you must apply each year and for each keyword you want to use. Learn more here >
